DaVinci Resolve 19: A New Era in Cloud Collaboration
With the launch of DaVinci Resolve 19, Blackmagic Design has introduced powerful AI-driven tools within the DaVinci Neural Engine, enhanced functionality for collaborative editing, and over 100 exciting feature upgrades. These updates enable editors, colorists, VFX artists, and audio engineers to work together seamlessly, regardless of location. This first post in our DaVinci Resolve 19 series is dedicated to exploring Cloud Collaboration—a game-changer for creatives looking to streamline workflows, enhance team efficiency, and bring ideas to life with minimal delays.
Cloud Collaboration: Connect and Create from Anywhere
The big breakthrough in DaVinci Resolve 19 is its support for Blackmagic Cloud, allowing teams to host project libraries on the DaVinci Resolve Project Server in the cloud. This means creatives can work together in real-time, no matter where they are in the world. Projects can be shared and updated instantaneously, so every team member—from editors and colorists to VFX artists and audio engineers—can collaborate on the same timeline, cutting down the delays and versioning issues that typically plague collaborative projects.
DaVinci Neural Engine AI: Editing Made Smarter
The DaVinci Neural Engine has received significant upgrades in this release, empowering editors with new AI tools that allow for seamless interaction with content:
- Transcribed Audio Editing: Editors can work directly with transcribed audio, quickly identifying speakers and editing timeline clips with incredible precision.
- IntelliTrack AI in Fairlight: This tool tracks motion to automate audio panning, making it easier for sound designers to produce immersive audio experiences that sync perfectly with visual cues.
Rich Color Grading for Cinematic Results
Resolve 19’s updates bring exciting options to colorists, such as:
- ColorSlice Six-Vector Palette: A feature that lets colorists produce rich, film-like tones, giving projects a timeless, cinematic quality.
- Film Look Creator: Emulating photometric film processes, this effect lets colorists easily achieve a vintage, filmic look, adding depth and warmth to footage.
Organization Management: Centralized Workflow for Large Teams
Resolve 19 has introduced the Organizations app for companies needing to manage multiple users and complex workflows:
- Groups and Teams: With the Organizations app, companies can define groups or teams and quickly share projects across the organization.
- Single Sign-On: Simplifies login and access, streamlining project and license management for larger teams.
- Project-Based Licenses: Companies can now assign and manage DaVinci Resolve Studio licenses on a per-project basis, optimizing budget and resource allocation.
Blackmagic Proxy Generator: Accelerating Editing Workflows
Resolve 19 comes with the new Blackmagic Proxy Generator App, making it easier to manage large files by creating high-quality proxies from camera originals:
- Automatic Proxy Creation: Simply create a watch folder, and new media will automatically convert to H.264, H.265, or ProRes proxies for faster editing.
- One-Click Footage Switching: Switch between proxies and camera-original footage seamlessly with a single click, instantly linking media within your timeline.
Streamlined Project Management and Feedback with Presentations
With the Presentations feature, users can export timelines to the cloud for instant review. Team members can leave comments and share live chats on specific clips or moments. Feedback is marked directly on the DaVinci Resolve timeline, making it easy to track and implement changes as needed.
Enhanced Timeline Locking for Collaborative Editing
Resolve 19 makes simultaneous editing easier with Timeline Locking. Instead of locking the entire bin, this new feature allows one user to lock a timeline, preventing others from making conflicting edits. This means multiple editors can work on separate timelines within the same bin, facilitating smoother, simultaneous workflows.
In the next post of this series, we’ll dive into the DaVinci Neural Engine AI tools and explore how they are transforming editing, color grading, and sound design within DaVinci Resolve 19. Whether you’re a solo creator or part of a large team, these updates in cloud collaboration and organization management empower you to create complex, high-quality projects faster than ever before.
